Terms of Service.

These terms govern your use of the SHIM website, waitlist, and (eventually) the SHIM hardware module sold by SHIM Industries, LLC.

The product

SHIM is a passive thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) clip designed to maintain a fixed aperture between the lid and base of a closed laptop. It contains no electronics and no software. It is not a medical, safety-critical, or load-bearing device. Use it as designed: on a personal laptop, indoors, at consumer scale.

Pre-production enrollment (waitlist)

• Enrolling on the waitlist does not constitute a purchase or a binding pre-order.
• Allocation is by enrollment timestamp. Referrals may advance your position in the queue, subject to the published thresholds.
• When manufacturing capacity allows, enrollees receive a notification with a unit reserved and an invitation to complete payment. You may decline at that point with no obligation.
• We may at any time revise enrollment policy or discontinue the program. We will notify enrollees of material changes by email.

Compatibility

The published compatibility list is provided for guidance. While the hinge geometry is consistent across listed MacBook models, we cannot guarantee fit on undocumented hardware or future models. If a unit does not fit your machine, we will replace or refund per our return policy below.

Warranty and returns

• Each SHIM unit is inspected before fulfillment. Manufacturing defects are covered for 30 days from delivery.
• You may return an unused unit within 30 days for a full refund. Used returns are not accepted; SHIM is a personal-fit accessory.
• We are not liable for incidental damage to your laptop. SHIM is designed to be non-marring, but you assume normal use risk.

Liability

SHIM is a passive accessory. We make no warranty as to its effect on third-party hardware (including but not limited to MacBook lid sensors), software behavior, battery life, or operating system state. Our maximum aggregate liability is the price you paid for the unit.

Intellectual property

“SHIM”, the SHIM wordmark, and the orange clip silhouette are trademarks of SHIM Industries, LLC. The clip’s mechanical design is patent pending.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated to enrollees by email. Continued use of the site or waitlist after a change constitutes acceptance.
